The following information was found in The Chailles in France and America by Jack H. Chaille. The Chaille family were merchants trading between Somerset County on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Boston in the Province of Massachusetts perhaps as early as 1710. In 1731 Moses Chaille is listed on Pocomoke Hundred tax records living in the household of Francis Allen, his then or future father-law, and beginning in 1734 was the head of his own household in Bogerternorton Hundred through the year 1739. In 1740, he appears as Capt. Moses Chaille in Pocomoke Hundred, Somerset County, which a few years later became part of the newly formed Worcester County. His son Peter was Colonel of the 10th Battalion of Worcester County Militia throughout the Revolutionary War. His grandson Moses is shown as a Lt. in the Worcester County Militia rolls on 3 Jan 1776 and 27 Aug 1776 and is listed in the muster rolls of Captain William Handy's Company, Wicomico Battalion, on the 15th of July, 1780.
