Jefferson and Varina Howell Davis
EACH WAS THE KEEPER OF THE OTHER’S HEART
I was interviewed this morning by William Sackett on 1640 WTNI “The Morning Show” about the relationship between Jefferson and Varina Howell Davis. I thoroughly enjoyed discussing this subject as the Davis courtship and marriage is one of the best and most interesting among American presidents. For this reason, I had written several scenes at the Confederate Executive Mansion in Richmond into Two Brothers: One North, One South to provide another dimension of this American Civil War story. These scenes primarily involve Varina Davis, Mary Boykin Chesnut, Hetty and Jenny Cary. This was my second interview with William Sackett & Rev on the Gulfport, Mississippi station . . . the timing was most appropriate as the ground breaking ceremony for the new Jefferson Davis Presidential Library and Museum at Beauvoir (in nearly Biloxi) is scheduled for this coming Sunday, December 6, 2009.

Dear Mr. Jones:
I apologize but I have a family emergency on my hands so I will not be able to attend your reading tomorrow night. Please let me know if you come to New York again. I will be certain to attend.
